Department of Finance Policy Conference


The California Department of Finance—the state agency that functions as the Governor's chief fiscal policy advisor and promotes long-term economic sustainability and responsible resource allocation—is hosting the Department of Finance Policy Conference on Friday, October 12, 2018, from 9:00 am to 4:15 pm at the State Capitol in Sacramento, California.

The conference is open to (1) undergraduate students who will graduate by spring 2019, (2) all graduate students and (3) State public policy professionals. The conference is an opportunity for participants to interact with state policy experts, network with other participants interested in public policy, and discuss the following:

  • California's government, economy, and demographics.
  • The state's legislative and budget processes.
  • Current issues in state policy, with opportunities for participants to focus on:
    • Pension liabilities, environmental policy, and higher education.
    • Housing/homelessness, rainy day fund, and transportation.
    • Criminal justice, health, and tax policy.
  • Careers and internships at Finance.

In addition, as part of the program, participants will be matched with current Department of Finance budget staff for conversations about the department’s work.
