Construction Permits

California’s construction activity measured by building permits issued and building permit valuation.  Excludes public works construction.   A building permit is required in most jurisdictions for new construction, or adding onto pre-existing structures, and for major renovations. Building permit data is compiled from building permits issued by cities and counties, tabulated by the California Homebuilding Foundation, and seasonally adjusted by the California Department of Finance.
